Clutch Assembly: Removal
- Remove battery and battery tray. Remove air cleaner housing and air inlet duct as an assembly. Disconnect ground cable from transmission. Disconnect clutch cable from clutch release arm and clutch cable bracket.
- Unplug connector from back-up light switch. Remove speed sensor and hose together. Disconnect cables and wiring harness clamp from starter. Remove distributor. Remove starter. On 1.8L, remove center beam.
- On all models, remove right front and center splash shields. Unplug O2 sensor connector. Remove exhaust pipe. Separate lower right ball joint from control arm. Remove right damper fork bolt. Remove right radius rod. Remove right drive shaft. See FWD AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVE AXLES.
- Separate lower left ball joint from control arm. Remove left drive shaft and intermediate shaft. Separate shift and change rods from transaxle. Remove front and rear engine braces. Remove clutch housing cover.
- Remove transaxle mount bolts from side of engine. Remove transaxle mount bolts from rear engine mount. Remove side transaxle mount bolt. Remove front transaxle mount.
- Attach engine lift sling to cylinder head. Lift engine enough to take weight from mounts. Place jack under transaxle. Raise transaxle enough to take weight from mounts. Remove bolt attaching bracket to side transaxle mount.
- Remove mount bolts from side of transaxle. Move transaxle away from engine until shaft clears clutch. Lower transaxle to remove from vehicle.
- Before removing clutch, measure diaphragm spring fingers wear using feeler gauge, Handle (07936-3710100 ), Shaft (07LAF-PR30210 ) and Disc (07JAF-PM7011A ). Wear limit is .039" (1.0 mm). Install flywheel holder. Unscrew pressure plate bolts 2 turns at a time in a crisscross pattern.
