Engine Control Module: Installation
NOTE:
When replacing a ECM with a GM SPO Replacement Part, the new ECM will learn the incoming fuel continue password immediately after programming and upon receipt of a password message. Once a password message is received and a password is learned, perform the learn procedure to change this password again. A ECM which had been installed in another vehicle will have learned the fuel continue password of other vehicle's theft deterrent control module. Perform either 10-minute relearn procedure or 30-minute relearn procedure after programming to learn the fuel continue password of current vehicle's theft deterrent control modules.
- With ignition off, position ECM to ECM bracket. Install nuts securing ECM to ECM bracket. Tighten ECM nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Carefully align harness connectors with ECM connectors. Guide connectors into place while moving release levers to locked position. Install screw securing ECM ground wire to ECM. Tighten ECM ground wire screw to specification. Program ECM. See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING.
- Program the theft deterrent system components if the ECM was installed from another vehicle. See PROGRAMMING THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM COMPONENTS under PROGRAMMING. Perform the idle learn procedure. See IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE under PROGRAMMING.
