VIN Mismatch

NOTE: Perform SKIS TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST: VER-1A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool, read VIN from Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If go to next step. If VIN displayed by scan tool does not match VIN on dash mounted plate, go to step  5.
  2. Using scan tool, read VIN stored in SKIM's memory. If VIN displayed by scan tool matches VIN on dash mounted plate, go to next step. If VIN displayed by scan tool does not match VIN on dash mounted plate,
  3. Using scan tool, erase VIN MISMATCH DTC. Verify that DTC has been cleared from memory. If VIN MISMATCH DTC no longer present, go to next step. If VIN MISMATCH DTC is still present in memory, replace SKIM and perform SKIM INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE .
  4. Start engine and allow to idle for 3 minutes. Read SKIM DTCs. If VIN MISMATCH DTC resets, replace SKIM and perform SKIM INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE . If VIN MISMATCH DTC is no longer present, system is currently functioning correctly.
  5. Using scan tool, reprogram correct VIN into PCM's memory following scan tool instruction manual. Using scan tool, erase VIN MISMATCH DTC. Verify that DTC has been cleared from memory. Using scan tool, read VIN stored in SKIM's memory. If VIN MISMATCH DTC resets, replace SKIM and perform SKIM INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE . If VIN MISMATCH DTC is no longer present, system is currently functioning correctly.
