Ignition Coil Resistance (Protege)

  1. Disconnect ignition coil 3-pin harness connector(s). On 1.6L, remove ignition coil. On both engines, us an ohmmeter to measure secondary resistance between coil towers No. 1 and 4 and between coil towers No. 2 and 3. See Figure . Resistance should be as specified. See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE  table. If resistance is not as specified, replace coil.
  2. Measure insulation resistance between ignition coil case and terminals No. 1A and 2A. Resistance should be greater than 10-megohms. If resistance is not as specified, replace coil.
