Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, follow air bag precautions and disable SRS. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Remove air bag module. See AIR BAG MODULE  . Remove Steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL  .
  2. Unscrew turn clockspring slightly to align clockspring set screws. Unscrew clockspring set screws to lock clockspring in place. Remove clockspring retaining screws. Disconnect all necessary electrical connectors. Remove clockspring assembly.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedures. If clockspring was not locked in place during removal, adjust clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING  under ADJUSTMENTS. Activate SRS and perform system operation check to ensure system is functioning properly. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  .
  4. On vehicles equipped with Adaptive Damping System (ADS), steering wheel angle sensor must be activated by starting engine then turning steering wheel lock to lock.
