Control Relay (3.0L)

  1. Remove control relay, located under right side of dashboard, near blower motor housing. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between relay terminals No. 3 and 4. Then No. 1 and 6. See Fig 1 . If no continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is present, control relay is defective.
  2. Check resistance between terminals No. 3 and 9. Approximately 95 ohms resistance should be present. Check resistance between terminals No. 10 and 7. Approximately 35 ohms resistance should be present. Check continuity between terminals No. 6 and 8, then reverse leads. Continuity should exist in one direction only. If relay does not perform as indicated, replace relay.

  3. Apply battery voltage across terminals No. 7 (positive) and No. 10 (negative) while checking continuity between terminals No. 3 and 4. If continuity is present, relay is okay. If not, replace relay.
  4. Apply battery voltage across terminals No. 6 (positive) and No. 8 (negative) while checking voltage on No. 1 and 2. If battery voltage is present, relay is okay. If not, replace relay.
