Starter Motor: Installation
CAUTION:
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the starter. See Figure.
- Install the starter bolts. Tighten to specification. See FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the electrical connectors to the starter. See Figure. Tighten the battery terminal nut to specification. See FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the electrical connectors to the starter. Tighten the S terminal nut to specification. See FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative battery cable. See Figure. Tighten bolt to specification. See FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .
NOTE:
Clean any existing oxidation from the contact face of the battery terminal and battery cable using a wire brush before installing the battery cable to the battery terminal.
