Inspection Procedure
HINT:
This DTC chart is based on the premise that the engine is cranked normally. If the engine is not cranked, proceed to the problem symptoms table on PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE .
Hand-held tester:
- Check STA signal.
PREPARATION:
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the hand-held tester main switch ON.
CHECK:
Read the STA signal on the hand-held tester while the starter is operating.
OK:
STA SIGNAL SPECIFICATION TABLEIgnition Switch Position ON START STA Signal OFF ON - OK: Proceed to next circuit inspection shown in problem symptoms table (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE ).
- NG: Go to next step.
- Check for open in harness and connectors between ECM and starter relay (Marking: ST) (See HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE
).
- NG: Repair or replace harness or connector.
- OK: Replace ECM (See HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).
OBD II scan tool (excluding the hand-held tester):
- Check voltage between terminal STA of ECM connector and body ground.
PREPARATION:
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
CHECK:
Measure the voltage between the terminal STA of the ECM connector and body ground during the engine cranking.
OK:
Voltage: 6 V or more

- OK: Proceed to next circuit inspection shown in problem symptoms table (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE ).
- NG: Go to next step.
