Code 7: Throttle Angle Sensor
NOTE:
For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
article. For vacuum diagrams, see VACUUM DIAGRAMS
article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect alternator sense fuse in under-hood relay box for 10 seconds to reset ECU. Start engine and observe CHECK ENGINE and LED lights. If lights are off, problem is intermittent. Check for poor or loose connections at throttle angle sensor, Green/White wire terminals at connectors C305 and C102.
- Also check at Yellow/White wire terminal a connectors C303 and C103 at right shock tower. Test drive and check again. If CHECK ENGINE light is on and LED indicates Code 7, turn ignition off. Connect 3-wire test harness between throttle angle sensor and wiring harness.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between Red (positive) and Green (positive) wire terminals. If reading is not 5 volts, measure voltage between Red (positive) wire terminal and ground. If reading is about 5 volts, repair open in Green/White wire between C14 and throttle angle sensor.
- If reading is not about 5 volts, turn ignition off. Connect ECU test harness. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between C13 and C14 wire terminals. If voltage is about 5 volts, repair open in Yellow/White wire between C13 and throttle angle sensor.
- If voltage is about 5 volts, substitute a known good ECU. If voltage is okay, replace original ECU. If voltage reading of first test in step 3) is about 5 volts, measure voltage between White (positive) and Green (negative) terminals at wide open throttle.
- If reading is about 4 volts, turn ignition off. Connect ECU test harness between ECU and ECU connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between C7 (positive) and C14 (negative) wire terminals at wide open throttle. If reading is not about 4 volts, repair open in Red/Yellow wire between ECU terminal C7 and throttle angle sensor.
- If reading is about 4 volts, substitute a known good ECU. If condition goes away, replace original ECU.
