Power Window Key-Off Timer: Notes

WARNING: You could injure your arms, hands, or fingers if you unintentionally switch the driver's window to "automatic down" while working in that door with the power on. Disconnect the window switch connector or the battery when working in the driver's door.

The power window system is controlled by the power window key-off timer circuit in the integrated control unit. The timer circuit allows the windows to be operated for several minutes after the ignition is turned to LOCK (0). This lets you close the windows without turning the ignition to ON (II) again. Opening either door will turn off the timer circuit.

Power to the windows is controlled by the main switch in the master power window switch. When the main switch is in OFF, only the driver's window can be opened or closed. With the main switch in ON, both power windows can be opened or closed. The driver's window is controlled by the driver's switch in the master panel and the power window control unit. The passenger's window can be controlled by the passenger's switch in the master panel or by the switch in the passenger's door.

Battery voltage is applied at all times through fuse No. 34 to the power window key-off timer circuit in the integrated control unit and from the battery to the power window relay contacts. With the ignition in ON (II) or START (III), battery voltage is supplied through fuse No. 5 to the power window key-off timer circuit. The timer applies voltage to the coil of the power window relay. The energized relay then supplies battery voltage through fuses No. 47 and 50 to the master switch, passenger window switch, and power window control unit.

When you turn the ignition to LOCK (0), the timer circuit continues to energize the power window relay for several minutes or until one of the doors is opened
