Manual Transmission Neutral Switch

  1. Connect ECM test harness between ECM and ECM connectors. Turn ignition on. Place transmission in Neutral, and measure voltage between ECM terminals B7 (positive) and A26 (negative). See Figure . If voltage is not about 10 volts, go to step 4). If voltage is about 10 volts, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect neutral switch 2-wire connector. Connect jumper wire between White wire terminal and Black wire terminal of neutral switch. Turn ignition on.
  3. If voltage is not about 10 volts, replace neutral switch. If voltage is about 10 volts, repair open in White wire between ECM and manual transmission neutral switch or Black wire between neutral switch and ground (located at intake manifold).
  4. Shift transmission into a gear. If voltage is about 10 volts, manual transmission neutral switch is okay. If voltage is not about 10 volts, turn ignition off.
  5. Disconnect ECM connector "B" from ECM test harness only. DO NOT  disconnect from ECM. Turn ignition on. If voltage is now approximately 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not approximately 10 volts, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. If voltage is now about 10 volts, replace original ECM.
  6. Reconnect vehicle harness to ECM "B" connector. Unplug neutral switch 2-wire connector, located on side of transmission. Turn ignition on. If voltage is now about 10 volts, replace neutral switch. If voltage is not about 10 volts, repair open in White wire between ECM terminal B7 and neutral switch, or Black wire between neutral switch and ground.
