Charging System Light

  1. Start engine. Charging system light should turn off. If charging system light remains on, go to next step. If charging system light turns off, charging system light circuit is functioning properly.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. On 3.2TL models, check No. 4 (15A) fuse in underdash fuse/relay box (fuse No. 20 on 3.5RL models). If fuse is open, replace fuse and recheck operation. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect generator 4-pin harness connector. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and generator 4-pin harness connector White/Blue wire (terminal No. 3 on 3.5RL; terminal No. 4 on 3.2TL). See Fig 1 . Turn ignition switch to ON position. If charging system light turns on, go to next step. If charging system light does not turn on, check for blown charging system light bulb and replace as necessary. If bulb is okay, repair open in White/Blue wire.
  4. With ignition switch in the ON position, remove jumper wire from generator 4-pin harness connector terminal No. 3 on 3.5RL (terminal No. 4 on 3.2TL). If charging system light turns off, go to step 7). If charging system light remains on, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. On 3.5RL, disconnect Multiplex Control Unit (MCU) 26-pin connector, located behind right kick panel. On 3.2TL, disconnect integrated control unit connector, located behind right kick panel. On all models, disconnect Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) 26-pin connector, located behind right kick panel. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If charging system light remains on, turn ignition switch to OFF position, and repair short to ground in White/Blue wire. If charging system light remains off, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and reconnect ABS 26-pin connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position, if charging system light remains off, replace MCU control unit on 3.5RL or integrated control unit on 3.2TL. On all models, if charging system light remains on, replace ABS control unit.
  7. With ignition switch to ON position and generator 4-pin harness connector disconnected, check voltage at generator 4-pin harness connector Black/Yellow wire (terminal No. 1 on 3.5RL; terminal No. 3 on 3.2TL). If battery voltage does not exist, turn ignition switch to OFF position and repair open in Black/Yellow wire. If battery voltage exists, go to next step.
  8. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect generator 4-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If charging system light turns on, start engine. If charging system light turns off, charging system is okay. If charging system light remains on, replace voltage regulator.
