Follow the Normal Conditions Maintenance Schedule if the severe driving conditions specified in the SEVERE CONDITIONS MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE  on do not apply.

SPARK PLUG INSPECTION
Replace timing belt and inspect water pump               Replace the timing belt.
Check water pump for signs of seal leakage.
REMOVAL , INSPECTION
Inspect and adjust drive belts         Check for cracks and damage.
Check deflection and tension at the center of the following belts pressing with 98 N (10 kgf, 22 lbf) tension:
Alternator drive belt: 8.0 - 10.5 mm (0.31 - 0.41 in)
P/S pump belt: 10.5 - 14.0 mm (0.41 - 0.55 in)
A/C compressor belt: 7.5 - 9.5 mm (0.30 - 0.37 in)
ALTERNATOR BELT INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT
PUMP BELT
CONDENSER
Inspect idle speed               750 ± 50 rpm (M/T: neutral)
750 ± 50 rpm (A/T: [N] or [P] position)
IDLE SPEED SETTING
Replace engine coolant           Capacity for change:
M/T: 3.8 (4.0 US qt, 3.3 lmp qt)
A/T: 3.9 (4.1 US qt, 3.4 lmp qt)
Check specific gravity for freezing point.
ENGINE COOLANT REFILLING AND BLEEDING , ENGINE COOLANT REFILLING AND BLEEDING
Replace transmission fluid               Manual transmission: Genuine Honda MTF 1.8 (1.9 US qt, 1.6 lmp qt) for change
Automatic transmission: 2.7 (2.9 US qt, 2.4 lmp qt) for change with Genuine ACURA Premium Formula ATF
MAINTENANCE
FLUID LEVEL
Inspect front and rear brakes
  • Check the brake pad, disc thickness, and free movement.
  • Check the wheel cylinders for leaks.
  • Check the brake linings for cracking, glazing, wear, or contamination.
  • Check the calipers for leakage.
FRONT BRAKE PADS , FRONT BRAKE DISC , FRONT BRAKE CALIPER , REAR DRUM BRAKES , INSPECTION , BRAKE HOSES/LINES
Replace brake fluid             Use Genuine Honda DOT3 brake fluid. Check that brake fluid level is between the upper and lower marks on the reservoir. FLUID LEVEL
Check parking brake adjustment Fully engaged 6 to 9 notches. PARKING BRAKE
Rotate tires (Check tire inflation and condition at least once per month) Every 12,000 km (7,500 miles) The suggested rotation method is shown in the diagram in the Owner's Manual. --
Visually inspect the following items:     
Tie-rod ends, steering gear box, and boots Check steering linkage for looseness.
Check condition of boots.
Check for fluid leaks.
POWER STEERING HOSES, LINES
Suspension components Check the bolts for tightness.
Check the condition of ball joint boots.
FRONT SUSPENSION , KNUCKLE/HUB REPLACEMENT , REAR SUSPENSION , HUB BEARING UNIT REPLACEMENT
Driveshaft boots Check condition of boots. DRIVESHAFTS
Brake hoses and lines (including ABS) Check for damage or leakage. INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT
All fluid levels and condition of fluid Check levels, condition of fluids, and check for leaks.
If brake fluid is low, check brake pad thickness.
RADIATOR , MAINTENANCE , FLUID LEVEL , BLEEDING
Cooling system hoses and connections Check all hoses for damage, leaks, and deterioration.
Check for proper fan operation.
ILLUSTRATED INDEX
Exhaust system* Check the catalytic converter heat shield, exhaust pipe, and muffler for damage, leaks, and tightness. EXHAUST MANIFOLD , EXHAUST PIPE AND MUFFLER
Fuel lines and connections* Check for leaks. Retighten loose connections and replace any damaged parts. FUEL LINES
According to state and federal regulations, failure to perform maintenance on the items marked with an asterisk (*) will not void customer's emission warranties. However, Honda recommends that all maintenance services be performed at the recommended time or mileage period to ensure long-term reliability.
