SYMPTOM TROUBLE SHOOTING INDEX

Symptom Perform Test
Premium
Radiator fan does not run at all. RADIATOR FAN CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "A"  .
Radiator fan does not run for engine cooling, but it does run with A/C ON. RADIATOR FAN SWITCH "A" CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING (OPEN)  .
Both fans do not run at all. RADIATOR AND CONDENSER FANS CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "A"  .
Radiator fan runs with ignition switch ON, A/C off, and engine temperature below 199°F (93°C). RADIATOR FAN SWITCH "A" CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING (SHORT)  .
Type S (A/T)
Both radiator fan and condenser fan do not run with A/C ON and when the engine coolant temperature is above 199°F (93°C). RADIATOR AND CONDENSER FANS CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "A"  .
Radiator fan does not run at all, but condenser fan runs with A/C ON or when the engine coolant temperature is above 199°F (93°C). RADIATOR AND CONDENSER FANS CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "B"  .
Condenser fan runs but radiator fan does not run when the engine coolant temperature is above 199°F (93°C), but both fans run with A/C ON. Remove radiator control relay, and test. See FAN RELAYS  under COMPONENT TESTS.
  • If the relay is faulty, replace it.
  • If the relay is OK, repair an open in the wire between the radiator fan control relay 5-pin connector, terminal No. 4 and the radiator fan motor 2-pin connector, terminal No. 2.
Both radiator fan and condenser fan do not run when the engine coolant temperature is above 199°F (93°C), but both fans run with A/C ON. RADIATOR AND CONDENSER FANS CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "C"  .
Both radiator and condenser fans do not run when the engine coolant temperature is above 199°F (93°C), but both fans change speed with A/C ON. RADIATOR AND CONDENSER FANS CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "D"  .
Both radiator fan and condenser fan run with ignition switch ON, with A/C OFF, and when the engine temperature is below 199°F (93°C). RADIATOR AND CONDENSER FANS CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "E"  .
Both radiator fan and condenser fan do not run at high speed with the A/C ON. See TROUBLE SHOOTING in appropriate AUTOMATIC A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS article.
Both radiator fan speed and condenser fan speed do not change from Low to Hi when the engine coolant temperature is above 210°F (99°C), but both fans change speed with A/C ON. RADIATOR AND CONDENSER FANS HIGH SPEED CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
Condenser fan speed does not change from Low to Hi with A/C ON and the engine coolant temperature above 210°F (99°C). See TROUBLE SHOOTING in appropriate AUTOMATIC A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS article.
Type S (M/T)
Radiator fan does not run at all. RADIATOR FAN CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING "B"  .
Radiator fan does not run for engine cooling, but it does run with A/C ON. RADIATOR FAN SWITCH "A" CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING (OPEN)  .
Radiator fan runs with ignition switch ON, A/C off, and engine temperature below 199°F (93°C). RADIATOR FAN SWITCH "A" CIRCUIT TROUBLE SHOOTING (SHORT)  .
