Pressure Test

Special Tools Required

  1. Make sure the transmission fluid is filled to the proper level (see ATF LEVEL CHECK  ).
  2. Raise the vehicle on a lift, or apply the parking brake, block rear wheels, and raise the front of the vehicle. Make sure it is securely supported.
  3. Remove the splash shield.
  4. Allow the front wheels to rotate freely.
  5. Connect the oil pressure gauge to the line pressure inspection port (A). Do not allow dust or other foreign particles to enter the ports while connecting the gauges.

  6. Start the engine, and warm it up to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on).
  7. Turn off the engine, and connect the HDS to the DLC (A).
NOTE: If the HDS does not communicate with the PCM, troubleshoot the DLC circuit (see DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING ).

  8. Measure the line pressure at the line pressure inspection port in the P or N position while holding the engine speed at 2,000 rpm.
NOTE: Higher pressure may be indicated if measurements are made in shift lever position other than P or N.
    FLUID PRESSURE REFERENCE CHART

    Pressure Fluid Pressure
    Standard Service Limit
    Line 900-960 kPa (9.2-9.8 kgf/cm2 , 130-140 psi) 850 kPa (8.7 kgf/cm2 , 120 psi)
  9. Turn the engine off, then disconnect the oil pressure gauge from the line pressure inspection port.
  10. Install the sealing bolt to the line pressure inspection port with the new sealing washer, and tighten the bolt to 18 N.m (1.8 kgf.m, 13 lbf.ft). Do not reuse the old sealing washer.
  11. Connect the oil pressure gauge to the 1st clutch pressure inspection port (B).

  12. Remove the air intake duct (see THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ) and air cleaner assembly (see AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  13. Remove the harness cover from its bracket, and connect the oil pressure gauge to the 2nd clutch pressure inspection port (C). Then temporarily install the air cleaner assembly and air intake duct.

  14. Start the engine, and shift to the S position.
  15. Shift to 1st gear, and measure the 1st clutch pressure at the 1st clutch pressure inspection port (B) while holding the engine speed at 2,000 rpm.
  16. Shift up to 2nd gear by pressing the steering wheel upshift (+) switch, and measure the 2nd clutch pressure at the 2nd clutch pressure inspection port (C) while holding the engine speed at 2,000 rpm.

    Pressure Fluid Pressure
    Standard Service Limit
    1st clutch (B)
    2nd clutch (C)
    890-970 kPa (9.1-9.9 kgf/cm2 , 130-140 psi) 840 kPa (8.6 kgf/cm2 , 120 psi)
  17. Turn the engine off, remove the air cleaner assembly (see AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ) and air intake duct (see THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ), then disconnect the oil pressure gauges from the 1st clutch pressure and 2nd clutch pressure inspection ports.
  18. Install the sealing bolts to the 1st clutch pressure and 2nd clutch pressure inspection ports with the new sealing washers, and tighten the bolts to 18 N.m (1.8 kgf.m, 13 lbf.ft). Do not reuse old sealing washer.
  19. Install the air cleaner assembly (see AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ) and air intake duct (see THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  20. Connect the oil pressure gauge to the 3rd clutch pressure inspection port (D) and the 5th clutch pressure inspection port (F).
