Fuel Evaporation System: Operation
Gasoline vapors from fuel tank are collected in expansion chamber and then routed to carbon canister through vent pipe. With engine off, vapors are adsorbed in charcoal canister and stored. With engine running, fresh air is drawn into canister where it mixes with vapors from fuel tank. Mixture then enters a plenum chamber through purge line and is burned. Air inlet valve allows outside air into system to prevent excessive pressure from building up in system. A check valve in line prevents fuel leakage in event of vehicle rollover.
