Intake Air System Test
- Air leaks in the intake system can cause various engine difficulties. To check for leaks, disconnect the air line from the auxiliary air valve at the intake manifold chamber. Apply a soapy water solution to any connections or joints where leaks are likely to occur.
- Plug the exhaust pipe with a shop towel or rag. Apply compressed air (15 psi maximum) at the hose connection on the intake manifold chamber and open the throttle plate. The presence of bubbles or foam at any point in the system indicates the presence of air leaks. Repair as needed.
