Air Injection System: Description

The air injection system is used on all 4.2L engines. This system is a exhaust backpressure pulse air type system that is connected to the exhaust manifold (upstream) and the catalytic converter (downstream). The system consists of 2 air control valves, 2 air switching solenoids, 2 check valves and various connecting hoses and tubes. See Figure .

Operation of the Pulse Air Injection system helps to further reduce hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions.
