Idle Switch

  1. Connect multimeter between terminal No. 1 of Test Adapter (VW 1501 ) and ground. Multimeter should read battery voltage. Turn ignition off. Switch multimeter to ohms range.
  2. Move throttle valve .20-.28" (.5-.7 mm). Measurement is made with feeler gauge between throttle valve stop and adjustment screw. Resistance should change from zero ohm (with throttle closed) to infinity as throttle gap increases beyond .020" (.5 mm).
  3. If resistance is not as specified, adjust idle gap to .006-.020" (.15-.5 mm). See Fig 1 . If resistance is as specified, check full throttle switch.
