Clean Working Conditions
Even minor contamination can lead to malfunctions. Observe the following guidelines for cleanliness when working on the fuel supply system, turbocharging system and injection system:
- Before loosening, the connection points and surrounding areas must be cleaned thoroughly with engine or brake cleaner, and then the cleaned area must be thoroughly dried.
- Before removal of the fuel injectors/injectors clean their surroundings thoroughly and if necessary blow out using compressed air, to do this wear protective eyewear.
- Immediately seal off any open lines and connections with clean plugs, for example from the Engine Bung Set:VAS6122 .
- Place removed parts on a clean surface and cover them with lint-free cloths.
- Carefully cover or seal opened components if repairs are not performed immediately.
- Only install clean parts: Remove replacement parts from the packaging just before installing. Do not use any parts that have been kept out of packaging (for example, in a toolbox).
- If the system is open, do not work with compressed air and do not move the vehicle.
- Make sure no fuel gets onto the fuel hoses. If necessary, the fuel hoses must be cleaned again immediately.
- Protect any disconnect connectors from dirty and moisture, and reconnect them only when they are dry.
