Engine Oiling System
Oil is picked up from oil pan by a gear-type pump. Oil flows through the oil filter. From the oil filter, oil goes either to the oil cooler or to engine. Oil cooler is thermostatically controlled to prevent oil going to cooler below 203°F (95°C). Oil passages supply oil to crankshaft, turbocharger, camshaft and piston cooling jets.
Piston cooling jets spray oil into a funnel shaped opening underneath each piston. The oil spray system operates only when oil pressure is above 29 psi (2 kg/cm2 ). If piston cooling jets are damaged or misaligned, immediate engine failure may occur.
