Turbocharger - Diesel: Testing
- Connect a "T" fitting into line between intake manifold plenum and altitude/boost compensator. Attach a 1-15 psi (0-1.0 kg/cm2 ) pressure gauge. Raise front wheels and block front of vehicle.
- With brakes applied, place transmission in the "Drive" position. Run engine at 2500 RPM and confirm boost pressure stabilizes at 11.6 psi (.8 kg/cm2
). If pressure stabilizes at the correct pressure, wastegate system test okay.CAUTION: DO NOT operate engine at 2500 RPM in gear with brakes applied for over 30 seconds. After test, run engine at 1000 RPM for 1 minute to cool transmission.
- If pressure is not in specification, check or repair the following components:
- Wastegate diaphragm.
- Hose connections.
- Turbocharger
- Pressure regulator.
