Turbocharger - Diesel: Testing

  1. Connect a "T" fitting into line between intake manifold plenum and altitude/boost compensator. Attach a 1-15 psi (0-1.0 kg/cm2 ) pressure gauge. Raise front wheels and block front of vehicle.
  2. With brakes applied, place transmission in the "Drive" position. Run engine at 2500 RPM and confirm boost pressure stabilizes at 11.6 psi (.8 kg/cm2 ). If pressure stabilizes at the correct pressure, wastegate system test okay.
    CAUTION: DO NOT operate engine at 2500 RPM in gear with brakes applied for over 30 seconds. After test, run engine at 1000 RPM for 1 minute to cool transmission.
  3. If pressure is not in specification, check or repair the following components:
    • Wastegate diaphragm.
    • Hose connections.
    • Turbocharger
    • Pressure regulator.
