Airflow Meter & Air Temperature Sensor

These sensors are located in intake passage between air filter and intake manifold. Airflow meter informs MCU of airflow rate. An air temperature sensor is part of the airflow sensor. This sensor informs the MCU of ambient temperature of incoming air. The sensors use a common power feed via the MCU.

On 5 and 7 Series with self-diagnostics, a short or open in airflow sensor wiring may set trouble code 07. If code is set, MCU will operate engine with fixed injection rate (3.5-4.5 ms) and fixed ignition timing (20° BTDC) with idle switch contacts open.

On 5 and 7 Series with self-diagnostics, a short or open in air temperature sensor will set trouble code 44. If code is set, MCU will operate engine with preset air temperature value.
