SUBJECT

Coding Index Error Message During CKM Coding

SITUATION

When coding Car and Key Memory, the following message may be displayed:

  1. "Coding Index GM5:
  2. Expected: 01
  3. In control unit: 02
  4. Correct ECU version fitted?"

CAUSE

The General Module was replaced with a later version (higher coding index) during vehicle assembly, but the ZCS code was not updated.

The same condition can occur if a later version (higher coding index) module is installed as a service repair, using a precoded module.

NOTE: As part of the setup prior to CKM coding, each module is checked against the coding index stored for that module in the ZCS. If there is a difference, an error message is displayed.

CORRECTION

Recode the General Module, and this will automatically update the ZCS code.

Proceed with car and key memory coding.
