SERVICE CAMPAIGN BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): SI B61 05 02, Date of Issue:  June 2002
BMW: E65, E66 (7 Series)
GROUP: 61 - General Electrical Systems
Superceded Bulletin(s): S.I. 61 05 02, Date of Issue:  June 2002
NOTE: This Service Information bulletins supersedes Advance S.I. 61 05 02 dated June 2002.

PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES BEFORE CUSTOMER DELIVERY OR THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.

Under the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966, as amended, if there has been a recall campaign, dealers must assure that all new vehicles and new items of replacement equipment are free of safety defects and comply with all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards at the time of delivery to the consumer. This means that dealers may not deliver new motor vehicles or new items of replacement equipment to consumers unless the safety defect or noncompliance has been remedied before delivery.

The work in this recall will automatically recode the Satellite Sensor (SBSR) and Light Module (LM). As a result, the following bulletins have been cancelled:

  1. B72 01 02 - Service Action to Recode Satellite Sensor (SBSR) - Defect Code 00 65 59 01 00 - Code #330
  2. B63 01 02 - Service Action to Recode Light Module - Defect Code 00 61 60 01 00 - Code #322

SUBJECT

Recall Campaign 02V-150 Reprogram Fuel Pump

MODEL

E65, E66 (7 Series)

SITUATION

If the vehicle is operated with less than one third tank of fuel, fuel transfer from one side of the fuel tank to the other may be insufficient. In some cases the engine may stall and cannot be restarted, unless additional fuel is added to the fuel tank.

CAUSE

The speed at which the fuel pump was originally programmed to operate may result in insufficient fuel supply.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Recall involves E65 (745i) and E66 (745Li) vehicles produced from start of production to April 18, 2002.

In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Recall, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Model Chassis Number Range
E65 DP50000 - DP57806
E66 DR00001 - DR01023

CORRECTION

Program Control Units using CIP V 1.0, or later. Refer to SI B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization and Programming) for programming instructions. Note that CIP will automatically reprogram all programmable control units that do not have the latest software.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Recall has been assigned code number 333.  After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-180) and:

  1. emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
  2. punch out code number 333  printed on the label and,
  3. affix the label to the pillar as shown.
NOTE: If this Service Action is being carried out at the same time as a Recall, or other Service Action, please maximize the use of each service action label by punching out the number(s) of all campaigns being performed on the same label. This will keep the "B" pillar as neat and uncluttered as possible

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
