Engine Performance: System: Turbocharger: Description
The turbocharger is mounted on the upper front portion of the 3.8L engine, and on the left side of 2.0L engine. The turbocharging system includes the turbine assembly, center housing rotating assembly (CHRA), compressor assembly, plenum chamber, wastegate and actuator, throttle body, and air-to-air intercooler (3.8L). The turbine is driven by exhaust gas.
Both engines use a port fuel injection system. The throttle valve, located inside the throttle body, regulates the amount of air delivered to engine.
Maximum manifold pressure is regulated by the wastegate. When intake manifold pressure reaches a specified level, the wastegate opens and a portion of the exhaust gas is routed around the turbine assembly, thereby limiting compressor speed and discharge pressure.
