Keyless Entry System Inoperative

  1. Ensure Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs are not present. If BCM DTCs exist, see BODY CONTROL MODULE article. Remove key from ignition. Close all doors. While observing door locks, depress LOCK then UNLOCK on each door switch. If all door locks operate properly using both door switches, go to next step. If all door locks do not operate properly using both door switches, see POWER DOOR LOCKS article.
  2. Resynchronize transmitters. See TRANSMITTER RESYNCHRONIZATION  under PROGRAMMING PROCEDURES. With all vehicle doors closed, test Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system functions using each button on RKE transmitter. If RKE system operated door lock, trunk lid and alarm functions, go to step 9). If RKE system did not operate door lock, trunk lid and alarm functions, go to next step.
  3. Remove transmitter batteries. Using DVOM, measure voltage of each transmitter battery. If voltage is between 3-3.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 3-3.5 volts, go to step 11).
  4. Reprogram all transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING PROCEDURES. Test RKE system functions using RKE transmitters. If RKE system operated door lock, trunk lid and alarm functions, go to step 17). If RKE system did not operate door lock, trunk lid and alarm functions, go to next step.
  5. Program known good transmitter. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  . Test RKE system functions using known good RKE transmitter. If RKE system operated door lock, trunk lid and alarm functions, go to step 12). If RKE system did not operate door lock, trunk lid and alarm functions, go to next step.
  6. Check RADIO-HVAC fuse (15-amp). If fuse is open, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step 8).
  7. Replace RADIO-HVAC fuse. If fuse opens again, go to step 13). If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  8. Disconnect remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) connector. Connect test light between RCDLR harness connector terminals "A" (Black wire) and "C" (Orange wire). If test light illuminates, go to step 14). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  9. RKE system is operational. Verify system operation. 10 Connect test light between ground and RCDLR connector terminal "C" (Orange wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step 15). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step 16).
  10. Replace transmitter batteries. Synchronize transmitters. See TRANSMITTER RESYNCHRONIZATION  under PROGRAMMING PROCEDURES. Verify system operation.
  11. Replace malfunctioning transmitter. Program transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING PROCEDURES. Verify system operation.
  12. Repair short to ground in Orange wire between fuse block and RCDLR. Verify system operation.
  13. Check for poor connector terminal contact at RCDLR. If connection okay, replace RCDLR. Reprogram transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING PROCEDURES. Verify system operation.
  14. Repair poor connection or open in Black wire between RCDLR and ground.
  15. Repair poor connection or open in Orange wire between fuse block and RCDLR.
  16. Turn ignition to LOCK position. Reinstall connectors/components removed. Check BCM for DTCs. If any DTCs present, see BODY CONTROL MODULE article. If no DTCs are present, system okay. Verify system operation.
