Speedometer/Odometer Inoperative
- Perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Go to next step.
- Install scan tool to DLC. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Select SPECIAL FUNCTIONS from the INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER MENU. Command instrument panel speedometer from 140 MPH to zero and back again. If speedometer responds as specified, go to next step. If speedometer does not respond as specified, go to step 4).
- Check for ABS DTC C0045 (ABS with traction control). If code is present, go to appropriate DTC diagnosis and testing procedure. See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM article in BRAKES section. If code is not present, go to step 5).
- Replace and program the instrument cluster. See procedures in INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- Check for open or short to ground in Blue/Red wire between Electronic Brake/Traction Control Module (EBTCM) terminal No. 23 (EBTCM terminal No. 6 on 1997 models) and instrument cluster terminal No. 23. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair circuit as necessary. Go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
