Transmitter Test

  1. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check was not performed, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  2. Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J-43241). See Fig 1 . Place transmitter on pad and press each button on transmitter. Ensure that transmitter is correct model for Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system. Wrong transmitter will pass test, but will not work with vehicle. Tone should sound and Green light should light on keyless entry tester when each button is pressed. If keyless entry tester responds as specified, go to step  7 . If keyless entry tester does not respond as specified, go to next step.
  3. If any buttons cause tone to sound and Green light to light on keyless entry tester, go to step  6 . If no buttons cause tone to sound and Green light to light on keyless entry tester, go to next step.
  4. Replace transmitter battery. After replacement, transmitter will need to be programmed. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to next step.
  5. Place transmitter on keyless entry tester pad and press each button on transmitter. Tone should sound and Green light should light on keyless entry tester when each button is pressed. If keyless entry tester responds as specified, go to step  9 . If keyless entry tester does not respond as specified, go to next step.
  6. Replace faulty transmitter. After replacement, transmitter must be programmed. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to step  11 .
  7. Operate transmitter within range of vehicle. If RKE functions operate properly, go to step  12 . If RKE functions do not operate properly, go to next step.
  8. Press PANIC button on transmitter. If vehicle responds properly (flashing lights, horn sounds), go to next step. If vehicle does not respond properly, go to step  11 .
  9. Resynchronize transmitters. See SYNCHRONIZING TRANSMITTERS  under PROGRAMMING PROCEDURES. If all doors locked and unlocked, go to next step. If all doors did not lock and unlock, go to step  11 .
  10. Operate transmitter within range of vehicle. If RKE functions operate properly, go to step  12 . If RKE functions do not operate properly, go to REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  11. Reprogram all transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. If all doors locked and unlocked, go to next step. If all doors did not lock and unlock, go to REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  12. Recheck system operation.
