Ignition System

When the distributor rotates, an alternating current is induced in the pick-up coil windings. The current passes throught the ECM, which in turn signals the electronic module in the distributor to trigger the ignition primary circuit. The collapse of the magnetic field in the ignition coil primary windings induces a high voltage surge in the secondary windings to fire the spark plugs.
