Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

  1. Disconnect TPS harness connector and check continuity across TPS terminals. Check that continuity exists between terminals No. 3 and 4 when throttle is at idle. No continuity should exist at wide open throttle. See Fig 1 .
  2. Ensure TPS switching from continuity to open is at proper throttle position. Insert a .016" (.40 mm) feeler gauge between throttle stop screw and throttle stop lever. See Fig 1 . Continuity should exist between terminals No. 3 and 4. Continuity should not exist when a .031" (.80 mm) feeler gauge is inserted. If switching is incorrect, adjust TPS.
  3. Check resistance between terminals No. 1 and 4. Resistance should be 4.4-8.1 ohms. If any test values are incorrect, replace TPS.
