Power Mirror System: Description

WARNING: Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting any repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.

Each outside mirror has two reversible motors. Each mirror motor contains an Electronic Circuit Breaker (ECB). ECB resistance increases if a motor is overloaded and returns to normal after voltage is removed from motor terminals. One motor adjusts mirror view up and down, and one motor adjusts mirror view left and right. Driver operates a switch that controls polarity of voltage to motors. Mirror select switch directs voltage to either side of right or left outside mirror.

When left outside mirror is selected and power mirror switch is in up position, battery voltage from Orange wire is applied to Yellow wire and up/down motor in left outside mirror. Power mirror switch supplies a path to ground through Light Green wire, through contacts of switch and Black wire. Left up/down motor runs and turns mirror up.

If power mirror switch is in down position, same motor receives voltage from Light Green wire, while Yellow wire is grounded. Motor runs in opposite direction.

Left/right motor operates in a similar manner. When power mirror switch is in left position, Light Green wire receives battery voltage and Red/White wire is grounded through switch. Motor runs, and moves mirror left. When right switch is pressed, mirror receives battery voltage through Red/White wire and ground through Light Green wire. Motor runs in opposite direction to move mirror right.

Right outside mirror works in a similar way as left outside mirror when mirror select switch is moved to right position and appropriate position switch is operated.
