Glow Plug System Relearn Procedure

NOTE: Glow plug system type learn is used to identify the correct system type (Federal or California). If a system type has not been relearned after PCM has been flashed, DTC P0380 will set.
  1. Turn ignition on, with engine off.
  2. Using scan tool, select "Special Functions, Engine Output Functions" and "Glow Plug System Learn".
  3. Activate "Glow Plug System Learn" by selecting ON. After learn function has been preformed, NOT LEARNED will be displayed on scan tool. In this step, scan tool is clearing system type.
  4. Using scan tool, select "Special Functions" menu, and select "Glow Plug".
  5. Activate "Glow Plug" system by selecting ON. In this step, glow plug relay is now sending the identifying (signature) voltage to PCM.
  6. PCM will now be able to identify correct glow plug system type. For visual verification of glow plug system, refer to glow plug controller, located on top rear of engine.
  7. Using scan tool, clear DTC P0380.
  8. Allow PCM to power down for at least 45 seconds.
  9. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, verify that DTC P0380 has not reset. If DTC P0380 resets, go to next step.
  10. Check connections at glow plug relay. Repeat relearn procedures. If relearn fails again, diagnose using DTC P0380 test. Go to DTC P0380 .
