Powertrain Control Module: Removal

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. PCM is located on right side of instrument panel, below the glove box.
  2. Release the two plastic retainers and remove the PCM cover. Disconnect the PCM electrical connectors as follows: Disconnect the four PCM electrical connectors on vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. Disconnect the three PCM electrical connectors on vehicles equipped with a manual transmission.
  3. On all models, remove the two PCM retaining bolts. Slide the PCM forward and out from the PCM bracket. Remove the four PCM bracket bolts. Remove the PCM bracket from underneath the instrument panel.
