Single Module Engine Controller (SMEC)

The SMEC (2.5L) contain circuits necessary to drive ignition coil, fuel injectors and alternator field. They contain a 14-pin connector and a 60-pin connector. The SMEC are digital computers containing microprocessors. They receive input signals from various switches and sensors.

The SMEC then compute the fuel injector pulse width, spark advance, ignition coil dwell, idle speed, purge, cooling fan start and alternator charge rate. The SMEC contain voltage converters which converts battery voltage to 9 volts output. The SMEC is located on the right inner fender panel.

NOTE: For more information on SMEC, see COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS section.
