Steering Column: Description

Three types of steering columns are covered in this article:

The REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  section of this article refers to standard steering columns. REMOVAL & INSTALLATION of other columns is similar.

The OVERHAUL  section in this article will cover tilt wheel column and fixed column with column shift. Overhaul of fixed column with floor shift is not available from manufacturer. Design is similar for all columns. The difference is the addition of column shifters and tilt mechanisms. Steering columns use an integral ignition lock switch, which secures steering wheel and shift linkage on column shift. Upper and lower sections of steering shaft are connected by plastic collars and pins.
