Charging System Warning Indicator Not Operating Properly
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Perform self-test on instrument cluster. Press and hold TRIP/RESET button and turn ignition on. If charging system indicator does not turn on for 4 seconds then turn off, go to step 3 . If charging system indicator turns on for 4 seconds then turn off, go to next step.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) located under left side of instrument panel. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If any DTCs are present, diagnose and repair DTCs before continuing. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no DTCs are present, go to next step.
- Remove and disconnect instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove and inspect charging system warning indicator bulb and socket. Replace bulb or socket as necessary. If bulb and socket are okay, diagnose PCI communication circuit. See BUS +/- SIGNALS OPEN OR NO RESPONSE FROM INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under COMMUNICATIONS. If bus circuit is okay, replace instrument cluster.
