Automatic Trans: Diagnosis: Identification

WARNING: Vehicle is equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. When servicing vehicle, use care to avoid accidental air bag deployment. SIR system-related components are located in various locations throughout interior and exterior of vehicle, depending on application. Do not use electrical test equipment on or near these circuits. If necessary, deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See AIR BAG DEACTIVATION PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.

Transaxle identification can be verified on tag (body code plate) located in engine compartment on driver's side strut tower or on engine bulkhead. See Fig 1 . Transaxle code for all other models is DGL. Identification number is stamped on transaxle case. See Fig 2 . Code and/or serial number may be required when ordering replacement components. If tag is missing, use production number stamped on transaxle case located under end cover, near transfer gear. Transaxle production number is first 7 numbers.
