Engine Compression

  1. Bring engine to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. On Rocky, remove air intake chamber. On 1.0L Charade, disconnect cold start injector time switch located below distributor.
  2. On all models, remove spark plugs. Disconnect distributor connector. On 1.3L Charade, remove injector relay from relay block and disconnect fuel pump relay connector located under left side of instrument panel.
  3. On all other models, remove injector relay and fuel pump relay from relay block. On all models, ensure battery is fully charged and capable of turning engine at specified RPM. See COMPRESSION SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. Insert compression gauge in spark plug hole. Fully open throttle and turn ignition switch to START position. When maximum compression reading is obtained turn ignition switch to OFF position. Record results. Repeat step 4) for each cylinder. See COMPRESSION SPECIFICATIONS .
