Advance Components
- Ignition timing on 3-cylinder model is ECU-controlled based on inputs from manifold pressure sensor, coolant temperature sensor and RPM as detected by pick-up coil. On 4-cylinder models, distributors are equipped with mechanical and vacuum advances.
- To test mechanical advance, turn rotor counterclockwise and release. Rotor should return clockwise rapidly to original position. If rotor fails to return fully to original position, repair or replace as necessary.
- To test vacuum advance, apply vacuum first to main vacuum chamber and observe that actuation arm is drawn into component. Repeat process on sub-vacuum chamber. If either chamber fails to draw arm into component, replace vacuum advancer.
