Toe Pattern Inspection
NOTE:
TOE PATTERN PREPARATION
procedures must be performed before toe pattern inspection.
- Position bottle jacks (or equivalent) at rear PLP (gauge) holes and at center of front crossmember.
- Hoist vehicle and remove wheels.
- Remove front and rear coil-over-shock assemblies.
- Install wheels.
- Lower vehicle so top of each lifting pad on jacks is 4.8" (123 mm) above base of each tire. At this setting, vehicle is at design height.
- Measure front and rear wheel toe at design height and record measurement in degrees on toe pattern graph. See Fig 1 .
- Raise front and rear of vehicle .98" (25 mm) above design height. Measure and record front and rear toe.
- Raise front and rear of vehicle 1.97" (50 mm) above design height. Measure and record front and rear toe. Return vehicle to design height. Lower front and rear of vehicle .98" (25 mm) below design height. Measure and record front and rear wheel toe. Lower front and rear of vehicle 1.97" (50 mm) below design height. Measure and record front and rear wheel toe.NOTE: It may not be possible to obtain a wheel toe reading with vehicle lowered 1.97" (50 mm) below design. If not, use readings from other height settings to determine toe pattern arc.
- Plot toe readings for front suspension on toe pattern graph. See Fig 1 . If toe pattern arc is within allotted area, front toe pattern is within limits. If toe pattern is not within allotted area, steering gear must be raised or lowered to achieve proper toe pattern.
- Plot toe readings for rear suspension on toe pattern graph. See Fig 1 . If toe pattern arc is within allotted area, rear toe pattern is within limits. If toe pattern is not within allotted area, inner pivot of toe links must be raised or lowered to achieve proper toe pattern.
