Bleeding Brake System

WARNING: Under normal operating conditions, ABS is under high pressure. Before servicing any component or opening fluid reservoir, system pressure must be released. With ignition switch in OFF position, pump brake pedal a minimum of 20-25 times using full pedal strokes. When a definite increase in pedal effort is felt, pump pedal twice more.
  1. ABS is bled using conventional method. Manually bleed system using foot method and an assistant. Bleed master cylinder, with ignition switch in OFF position, before bleeding brake lines.
  2. Start engine. Press brake pedal several times until resistance is felt. Press and hold brake pedal. Loosen right rear brake bleed screw 1/3 to 1/2 turn, then close screw before fluid pressure is gone. Release brake pedal. Repeat procedure until air bubbles no longer appear in fluid. Proceed to next bleed screw. See BRAKE LINE BLEEDING SEQUENCE  table.

  3. When bleeding procedure is complete, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Pump brake pedal a minimum of 20-25 times using full pedal strokes. When a definite increase in pedal effort is felt, pump pedal twice more. Check and refill master cylinder.
