Total Pinion Torque Test

Using Preload Socket (MB991006) and torque wrench, rotate pinion gear one revolution every 4-6 seconds. Measure from lock to lock. Torque reading should be 6-12 INCH lbs. (0.7-1.4 N.m), with an allowable change in torque of 3 INCH lbs. (0.4 N.m). If reading is not as specified, adjust rack support cover and check total pinion torque again. If pinion torque cannot be adjusted, check rack support cover, rack support spring and rack support. Replace parts as necessary.
