Ignition Power Transistor

  1. Disconnect connector at ignition power transistor. Ignition power transistor is mounted on top of engine, near ignition coil and contains a 8-pin Black connector.
  2. To check ignition power transistor for cylinders No. 1 and 4, connect analog type ohmmeter between terminals No. 3 and 8 of ignition power transistor. See Fig 1 .
  3. A 1.5-volt battery will be used as the power supply. Connect negative terminal of a 1.5-volt power supply to terminal No. 3 of ignition power transistor. See Fig 1 .
  4. Momentarily touch positive terminal of 1.5-volt power supply to terminal No. 7 of ignition power transistor. Continuity should exist between terminals No. 3 and 8 of ignition power transistor when positive terminal of 1.5-volt power supply is connected to terminal No. 7.
  5. Disconnect positive terminal of 1.5-volt power supply from terminal No. 7 of ignition power transistor. Continuity should no longer exist between terminals No. 3 and 8 of ignition power transistor. Replace ignition power transistor if continuity is not as specified.
  6. To check ignition power transistor for cylinders No. 2 and 3, connect analog type ohmmeter on between terminals No. 1 and 3 of ignition power transistor. See Fig 2 .
  7. Connect negative terminal of a 1.5-volt power supply to terminal No. 3 of ignition power transistor. See Fig 2 .
  8. Momentarily touch positive terminal of 1.5-volt power supply to terminal No. 2 of ignition power transistor. Continuity should exist between terminals No. 1 and 3 of ignition power transistor when positive terminal of 1.5-volt power supply is connected to terminal No. 2.
  9. Disconnect positive terminal of 1.5-volt power supply from terminal No. 2 of ignition power transistor. Continuity should no longer exist between terminals No. 1 and 3 of ignition power transistor. Replace ignition power transistor if continuity is not as specified.
