Shift Indicator Light

  1. The shift indicator light is intended to help driver obtain optimum fuel economy. On EEC-IV vehicles, the system is integrated into the EEC module. System is controlled by engine speed and manifold vacuum. Light does not come on in top gear. When engine speed is greater than 900 RPM and engine vacuum is greater than 5 in. Hg at part throttle, light comes on to indicate gear should be upshifted.
  2. There is a one-second delay before the light comes on. If light does not come on, check indicator bulb, printed circuit and cluster connector power and tightness. If these are okay, check circuit from cluster to transmission. See appropriate chassis wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS section.
