Keyless Entry Does Not Operate

  1. Install scan tool. Turn ignition to RUN position. Record DTC failure codes. If any BCM codes are set, see appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article. If no DTCs are set, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module. Using DVOM, measure voltage between keyless entry harness connector terminals No. 1 (Orange wire) and No. 4 (Black/White wire). If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step 5).
  3. Using DVOM, measure voltage between keyless entry harness connector terminals No. 2 (Orange wire) and No. 4 (Black/White). If voltage is about battery voltage, go to step 9). If voltage is not about battery voltage, go to step 8).
  4. Replace RFA module. Recheck system operation.
  5. Using DMM measure voltage between keyless entry harness connector No. 1 (Orange wire) and battery ground. If voltage is about battery voltage, go to next step. If voltage is not about battery voltage, go to step 7).
  6. Repair open in Black/White wire between RFA module and Body Bussed Electrical Center (BBEC). Recheck system operation.
  7. Repair open in Orange wire between Underhood Bussed Electrical Center (UBEC) and RFA module.
  8. Repair open in Orange wire between RFA module and Truck Body Control (TBC) Module. Recheck system operation.
  9. Disconnect TBC module. Using DMM, measure voltage between keyless entry harness connector terminals No. 2 (Orange wire) and No. 4 (Black/White wire). If voltage is about battery voltage, go to next step. If voltage is not about battery voltage, go to step 4).
  10. Repair short to battery voltage in Orange wire between RFA module and TBC module.
