Charging System Check
- Turn ignition on. Charge indicator should stay on and voltmeter should read 12-14 volts. If charge indicator does not illuminate, go to CHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT NEVER ON under ON-VEHICLE TESTING. If voltmeter does not read 12-14 volts, go to VOLTMETER DISPLAYING HIGH OR LOW under ON-VEHICLE TESTING.
- Start engine. If charging system and indicator light are operating properly, go to next step. If charge indicator stays on, go to CHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT ALWAYS ON under ON-VEHICLE TESTING. If charge indicator stays on and voltmeter does not read 13-16 volts, bench test generator. See BENCH TESTING .
- Turn on headlights, rear defogger and blower motor. If charging system and indicator light are operating properly, check is complete. If charge indicator illuminates and voltmeter does not read 13-16 volts, bench test generator. See BENCH TESTING .
