Speedometer Is Inaccurate

  1. Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored within PCM. If there are no DTCs present, go to next step. If any DTCs are stored, see the appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.
  2. Locate Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) at right rear of transaxle. Connect voltmeter between VSS connector terminal No. 3 (Red/Yellow wire) and ground. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Raise and support vehicle drive wheels off ground.
  3. Place transaxle in NEUTRAL. Measure voltage while slowly rotating drive wheel one complete revolution. If voltage flashed from zero to approximately 10 volts 2 times, replace speedometer. If voltage did not flash from zero to approximately 10 volts 2 times, replace VSS.
