Ignition Timing

NOTE:
Ignition timing is not adjustable. If ignition timing is not within specification, check for possible engine mechanical failure.
- Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Turn all accessories off. Install scan tool. Ensure engine idle speed is 650-750 RPM. Ensure transaxle is in Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T) with parking brake fully applied. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position.
- Connect timing light to No. 1 spark plug wire. Remove cover from 23-pin duty check DLC located on left strut tower. Connect a fused jumper wire between 23-pin duty check DLC terminal No. 3/E1 (Brown wire) and terminal No. 8/TE1 (Blue/White wire). See Fig 1
.
- Start engine. Ensure idle speed is 650-750 RPM. Start engine and check timing mark on crankshaft pulley with timing marks on timing belt cover. Notch on crankshaft pulley should line up at 10 degrees BTDC on timing indicator.
