System Testing
- Disconnect vacuum hoses from anti-afterburn solenoid. Connect vacuum pump to lower solenoid fitting. Start engine and apply vacuum. If vacuum holds, go to step 4). If vacuum does not hold, stop engine. Block rear wheels and raise front of vehicle. Support with safety stands.
- Start engine. Place transmission in 2nd gear (manual) or "2" (automatic) position. Accelerate to greater than 15 MPH. Apply vacuum to solenoid. If vacuum does not hold, go to step 6). If vacuum holds, allow engine to warm to operating temperature (cooling fan comes on).
- Apply vacuum. If solenoid does not hold vacuum, go to TROUBLE SHOOTING . If solenoid does hold vacuum, check for proper hose connection, blockage or disconnection.
- If vacuum held in step 1), stop engine. Disconnect 4-wire connector near solenoid valve. See Figure . Start engine. Measure voltage between White/Blue (pos.) and Black (neg.) wire terminals of harness. If battery voltage is present, replace solenoid valve.
- If battery voltage is not present, measure voltage between ground and White/Blue wire terminal of harness. If voltage is present, repair open in Black wire between solenoid and ground. If voltage is not present, check for open or short to ground in White/Blue wire between ECU and solenoid connector. If wire is okay, go to TROUBLE SHOOTING .
- If vacuum did not hold in step 2), turn ignition off. Disconnect 4-wire connector near solenoid. See Figure . Start engine and accelerate to greater than 15 MPH. Measure voltage between White/Blue (pos.) and Black (neg.) wire terminals. If battery voltage is not present, replace solenoid. If battery voltage is present and no faults have been found in system, go to TROUBLE SHOOTING .
